A Handmade Glazed Ceramic Bowl from Huaining, Yunnan — 600 Years of Chinese Pottery Tradition

A Living Ceramic Tradition from Huaining, Yunnan
This ceramic bowl is more than a functional object — it is the continuation of a 600-year-old pottery tradition from Huaining, Yunnan, one of China’s historic ceramic regions.
For generations, local artisans in Huaining have worked with clay, fire, and time. Every piece we create follows the same principles: pure handcraft, natural materials, and high-temperature kiln firing.
No shortcuts. No mass production.
Hand-Shaped, Not Molded
As shown in the images, this bowl is entirely handmade on the potter’s wheel.
The gentle curves of the body, the subtle variations in thickness, and the natural form of the foot ring all reveal the movement of human hands.
Small irregularities are not defects — they are the fingerprints of craftsmanship, making each bowl truly unique.
No two bowls are ever exactly the same.

Natural Glaze with Kiln-Fired Depth
The glaze is one of this bowl’s most striking features.
From the side view, the surface shows a soft blend of jade green, muted blue, and earthy brown tones, naturally flowing and pooling during firing.
From the top view, the glaze reveals a deep, organic color transition, with subtle speckling and tonal depth created by mineral reactions inside the kiln.
These variations are not painted or controlled by machines — they are formed naturally at 1300°C, where glaze, clay, and fire interact unpredictably.
This is why each bowl has its own character.
High-Temperature Firing at 1300°C
Every bowl is fired in a high-temperature kiln reaching approximately 1300 degrees Celsius.
This process:
- Strengthens the ceramic body
- Enhances glaze depth and durability
- Creates natural color variation impossible to replicate
High-temperature firing is demanding and time-consuming, but it is essential to achieving the
rich texture and lasting quality seen in this piece.

Designed for Daily Use and Quiet Rituals
With its rounded form and balanced weight, this bowl is suitable for:
- Tea snacks or fruit
- Rice or soup
- Quiet moments of daily use
Over time, the bowl becomes part of your personal ritual, carrying warmth from the hands that made it to the hands that use it.
One Bowl, One Story
Because every step is done by hand and every firing is unique, no two bowls are alike.
This bowl exists as a single piece in the world — once chosen, it can never be recreated in exactly the same way.
That is the true meaning of handmade ceramics.
From Yunnan, China — With Time and Fire
From the clay-rich land of Huaining, Yunnan, and from a ceramic tradition spanning more than six centuries, this bowl carries the marks of time, fire, and human touch.
It is not just a product.
It is a quiet continuation of history.
